Lionel 691PCB104C RailSounds 4 Audio Circuit Board without chips.
RailSounds 4 was introduced in 1999 and then used throughout the mid-2000's. This board measures approximately 1.5" x 1.25" x 0.75".
This is the board in the modular RailSounds 4 system that produces the actual sounds. You'll need to install it in a Lionel RailSounds system with other Lionel boards in order for it to function as it does not produce sound on its own. Lionel's RailSounds chips are not included with this item, so you'll need to transplant them from a working RailSounds 2.5 to 4.0 board. Chips from RailSounds 2 and 5 are NOT compatible with this board. I also sell these boards complete with chips, and also occasionally offer Lionel RailSounds chips that would be compatible with this board -- be sure to check my other listings.
The ideal purpose for this board is as a replacement for a RS4 board that no longer functions. If you use this board to fix a non-working sound system, please make sure that this audio board is the problem and not one of the other components in your system. It is important to be sure you have a RailSounds 4 system in your locomotive or sound car to use this audio board. They will always be numbered 691-PCB1-04C. The boards for RailSounds 3 and 5 are similar, but not compatible. To add to the confusion, Lionel mis-labeled these and many other boards as RailSounds 3 (RS3) but the part number -- 691-PCB1-04C -- is correct for RS4. Please ask if you're unsure this board will work in your installation.
